Securix 1.3 … RELOADED!

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Given the significant issue discovered in barnyard2 we have decided it would be in the best interest of new users to re-release Securix-NSM 1.3 with the updated barnyard2 binary. It is entirely possible that installation would not work as expected and ends up confusing the end user more than helping them get on with some good old NSM discovery.

We apologise for any inconvenience and ask that if you are having troubles confirm your ISO matches the md5 and if not, then re-download and check. Failing that hit us up and we’ll make sure your problem is fixed in a timely manner.

It’s the least we can do.

Securix-NSM 1.3 … Finally!

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

This is a milestone release that not only pulls in all the recent updates to the NSM administration scritps as well as barnyard2 but also comes with its very own installer (based on debian-installer).

One of the most requested features was to be able to install to the HDD and finally we have achieved it. I can’t say enough good things about the Debian backbone, suffice to say that is why we chose to use it for our foundation.

It comes in the CD/DVD ISO flavour as well as the USB-HDD flavour for all you live USB fans out there. We welcome any and all feedback, after all we are here to help you improve your network security practices and setups so let us know what you want.

Securix-NSM 1.3 (beta) … Hanging out for Lenny!

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Given that NSMnow and the associated NSM adminstration scripts have come a fair way in the last few months it was about time we decided to push a new release of Securix-NSM out there. This release obviously includes the latest releases of the NSM administration scripts but also the latest addition to barnyard2. It is built on the latest Lenny repository (as of 08 Feb 08) and thus benefits from all its updates over the last few months.

The most notable inclusion is that of the installer. You now have the ability to install Securix-NSM to your HDD for a permenant installation. Another noteworthy inclusion is that we are now shipping it in to formats; a CD/DVD ISO as well as a USB-HDD friendly IMG. In regards to installing to a USB-HDD check out the FAQ.

Although this is a beta release, it should be perform just fine. We will however release a final version some time after Debian Lenny goes stable. In the meantime you have a window to influence what you would like to see in the 1.3 Final release.

Securix-NSM 1.0.1 – Working as advertised

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Ooops!

We have identified what we consider to be a significant issue, regarding sancp, to work its way into the 1.0 release. We regard it significant because it removes a key peice of information (session data) that should be available to an NSM analyst.

More detail can be found in the NSMnow-1.1.1 update post.

One positive aspect of this stability update is that we are very happy with the Securix-NSM development framework that allows us to easily generate updates to our ISO. This translates to quicker turnarounds on stablility fixes and more frequent updates.

Now that can only be a good thing. Enjoy!

A successor is born … Securix-NSM 1.0

With the large amount of feedback we received from the Knoppix-NSM distribution we thought how would we do this if we had the time to do it again. What we’ve been working on over the past few months is a number of foundation applications, namely barnyard2 and NSMnow, that will aid the integration of security applications to provide a stable NSM framework.

Even with the simplicity of NSMnow some people will still rather test out the features of something new via the easiest means possible. By todays standards that means is typically the live CD or live USB mediums.

Securix-NSM is the direct successor of Knoppix-NSM, based on a more pure Debian system, giving you all the benefits of the most used NSM applications pre-configured and ready to go. From our perspective this is the best mechanism for presenting NSM related applications on the Debian platform.

If you have any feedback or would even like to become involved with improving the Securix-NSM platform then by all means let us know.

So head over to the Securix-NSM project page to grab a copy. We’ll also keep the Knoppix-NSM links a live for sometime until we’re happy that all documentation has be ported across and that a full transition has been completed.
